Starter Design Build – BabyNES Retropie – Classic Gaming Console
A commission to build a console version of the Retropie Gaming System following the build of the PiGrrl 2 led Starter to the construction of the BabyNES Retropie. The Raspberry Pi 3B+ is the single-board computer of choice, similar to the console’s predecessor. This brings great performance marks to the system. As a console, it allows the user to enjoy classic gaming the old-fashioned way. With connection ports for a wall charger, HDMI output and four USB ports, it’s very easy to connect to any modern TV screen. Just plug up any classic style controller and play all of your favorite retro games!
Thingiverse is the source for the BabyNES Retropie Gaming Console case. Printed in just two parts out of white and gray PLA, it’s a fairly simple case. The case only needed slight modification to accept the geometry of the Pi 3B+. The case bosses use threaded heat inserts allowing assembly with minimal wear. The access cover lifts to reveal the USB and Ethernet ports. This allows easy access to the system’s main connections. The vented top relieves excess heat from the Pi’s processor which helps the Pi stay cool. All things said, it’s one pretty cool build.
